Films I Watched In January 2022:

1. Don’t Look Up (2021) – Two low-level astronomers must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth.

2. tick, tick… BOOM! (2021) – Based on the autobiographical musical by playwright Jonathan Larson. It’s the story of an aspiring composer in New York City who is worried he made the wrong career choice, whilst navigating the pressures of love and friendship.

3. The Social Network (2010) – Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates a social networking site, Facebook, with his friend Eduardo’s help. Though it turns out to be a successful venture, he severs ties with several people along the way.

4. Steve Jobs (2015) – Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution, to paint a portrait of the man at its epicenter. The story unfolds backstage at three iconic product launches, ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac.

5. The Laundromat (2019) – A widow investigates an insurance fraud, chasing leads to a pair of Panama City law partners exploiting the world’s financial system.

6. People Places Things (2015) – Will Henry is a newly single graphic novelist balancing parenting his young twin daughters and a classroom full of students while exploring and navigating the rich complexities of new love and letting go of the woman who left him.

7. If anything happens I love you (2020)– In the aftermath of tragedy, two grieving parents journey through an emotional void as they mourn the loss of their daughter.

8. Connect (2016) (BAFTA Nominated Short Film) – Fed up with the hostility of the city and its people, a young woman’s view of the world changes when she makes a surprise connection with a stranger on a bus.

9. Alone (2013) (Post Apocalyptic Short Film) – Alone. Alone is what this man is. Years after the world ended and the human race perished; this is the only man left standing. How did he survive? What caused the outbreak? We don’t know. No one does. This short film gives you an inside look on what the only man left alive does on a day-to-day basis, what he does to survive, to kill time, and to keep himself sane.

10. The English Teacher (2020) – Robert Brammel, a private English teacher who develops an unusual relationship with a new student.

11. Listen to me (2017) – This is the story about a deaf girl who has been bullied to the point where she is completely broken and decides to try to end her life. A student worker sees her and must now try to save her life.

12. The Clue (2019) – A girl who lives a very ordinary life one day finds a mysterious note with an invitation to go to an adventure. She goes on a treasure hunt where she finds clues that lead her to different places, unraveling a mystery that turns out different than expected.

13. The Blade Runner 2049 (2017) – K, an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a secret that could create chaos. He goes in search of a former blade runner who has been missing for over three decades.

14. Close-up (1990) – The movie is a true story of a poor man who impersonates director Mohsen Makhmalbaf and gets into a rich household on the pretext that he wants to use them and their house in his next film.

15. The Internship (2013) – Two out-of-work salesmen, lacking the digital-savvy skills they need to find jobs, sign on as interns at a high-tech company.

16. Orderly or Disorderly ( 1981) – A short film by Abbas Kiarostami challenging humankind on universal themes on stability versus chaos.

17. A Separation (2011) – It is an Iranian drama film which focuses on an Iranian middle-class couple who separate, the disappointment and desperation suffered by their daughter due to the egotistical disputes and separation of her parents, and the conflicts that arise when the husband hires a lower-class caregiver for his elderly father, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.

18. The Two Popes (2019) – Behind Vatican walls, Pope Benedict and the future Pope Francis must face their pasts and find common ground in order to forge a new path for the Catholic Church.

19. The Fish And I (2014) – The Fish and I is an Iranian short film directed, written and acted by Babak Habibifar that recounts the story of a blind man trying to save his fish.

20. Dear Zindagi (2016) – After a series of career and relationship downturns, Kaira begins suffering from insomnia. She contacts Dr Jehangir Khan, a psychologist, who uses unconventional methods to treat her.
